The San Carlos Villagers were formed in April 1949 to preserve the history of San Carlos. The goal was to collect documents, photos and memorabilia that reflected San Carlos’ rich background and safe-guard it for future generations. To do this, the Villagers compile, collect and assemble letters, photographs, personal articles and relics of historical interest detailing the city’s heritage.

In 1981, the City of San Carlos designated the Villagers to be docents of The Museum of San Carlos History.

The Villagers are made up of volunteers from the community who live in San Carlos. Membership is a wonderful way to learn about San Carlos. The Villagers have evening meetings on the 2nd Tuesdays in January, April, July, October and December. These meetings are held at the Museum. Villagers are also involved a variety of events throughout the year. An annual Ice Cream Social and Home Town Days are just a few.

Active Villagers are required to docent three times a year at the museum and must complete a docent training session familiarizing volunteers with Museum procedures. The training lasts approximately 30 minutes. Docents choose the days they want to work their 3 hour shifts.

Associate Villagers have no docent requirement. They are encouraged to participate at events and attend quarterly luncheons.
